Our Biggest Technology Spenders:

The “Millenials

(24 – 40 years old)

The Millenials are a segment that are climbing in their careers, settling down and having child(ren) – some would be the parents of our Gen Z-ers!

These are a segment that grew up with the latest technological advancement of the times whom have lived with the advent of the creation of the internet, and came of age in the Information Age. Some may be even very technologically savvy and follow up with the latest technological advancement. They are also highly dependent on technology, especially smartphones which must function as a integrated smart device.

However, having multiple commitments (both family and financially), they will prefer not to spend their hard earned dollars on the latest and bestest. Instead, they will get something that is the best value for their money.

It is largely made out of customers that due to their work requirements, requires a practical, sturdy workhorse that could multitask and run various big operational apps, simultaneously.

Digital Immigrants with High Disposable Income:

The “Gen X

(41 – 55 years old)

The Gen Xers are a segment that have peaked or are peaking in their careers. With a newly empty nest, it is the time where they will spend at quality products, and not scrimp and save since they have been working hard for the past few decades.

They are immigrants to the online world, but do not let the age deceive you! They love to communicate and socialize in their WhatsApp groups and with their Facebook friends – both online and offline – and they have the time to do so leisurely.  These are the aunties and uncles that sometimes share unverified news, healthfacts, and videos with great enthusiasm which use up a lot of everyone’s bandwidth, phone and cloud storage.

Generally, they will get phone purchase recommendation from their younger colleagues, or sometimes their beloved children or grandchildren will purchase the digital device for their birthdays and anniversaries.  As such, much thought will be put into selecting the right specification if this segment received a recommendation or a gift with regards to the mobile device to ensure that it is suitable for the Gen Xers’ use. Nonetheless, the Gen Xer would probably not take advantage of all the phone features that are available in the smart device that they use.

Digital Natives:

The “Gen Z

(18 – 24 years old)

This group are trendy, carefree and place emphasis on design. The Gen Zers has never known a world without internet, and grew up in a hyper connected environment.
Other than a consumer of media content, they are also using the same smartphones to be content creators  – and their smartphone device will need to have the technological capabilities to support such activities. (i.e. Snapchat, TikTok, Youtube)

Even though they may be college students, they are able to own the fastest and bestes of such device as their parents (likely from the Millenial segment), would purchase such devices for their children. As children of the Millenials, their parents also understand technology and sees value in providing such devices to their children.
